Now that’s a mouth full, of what, I don’t know.
Much like the national scene, it’s one party against the other, with no crossing the aisle, no working together, no compromise. And we, the lowly taxpaying citizens of the state suffer because of it.
Let’s start with vehicle registration fees. I own a 2010 Toyota Prius, a hybrid, and have enjoyed 52 MPG on occasion. Good on the pocketbook, for sure. For the last several years, I also owned various Dodge vehicles. Good cars and/or trucks, all of them. In anticipation of driving to the southern states this past January/February, I purchased a 2024 Honda CRV, SUV, also a hybrid, and I enjoy 40-plus MPG in the city and about 34 MPG on the highway (21 mpg when pulling a trailer). I’m proud of that! NO! Not a true electric car, but one that can go over 400+ miles on a tank of gas and don’t have to stop to plug-in every 100 miles. No plugging in at all! So don’t be confused.
I enjoy this for two reasons. First, it saves on the pocket book, me being on a fixed income and all. Also, because I hope to be contributing to helping preserve Mother Earth for future generations.
I mention this, because I get burned on the other end! By the State of Wisconsin DMV license bureau. I pay $85/year for vehicle registration just like my neighbors, BUT I also get soaked a $75/Hybrid “surcharge”!!! What the hell!!! They’re not getting my money at the gas pumps, so they have to “surcharge” me.
Thanks Wisconsin!!!
The next thing is the hesitation by the state of Wisconsin to recognize the real need to allow for prescriptions for legal, medical cannabis. I have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease for over two years now, and my physician is willing to prescribe this for me to ease the effects of the very evident tremors I experience constantly through each and every day. Studies show it could very well be worth trying But, IT’S NOT LEGAL TO DO SO IN WISCONSIN. Fortunately, is has been confined to only my right arm, but anyone who sits next to, or sits at the same table I do, will attest to how much of a pain the ass it is to have everything I come into contact with – SHAKING!! “Sorry”! I say.
Worse yet, if I were posting this rant (or type you an email) without going over all the red lines on the page – changing all the double- and triple-strikes on the original, you will see first-hand what a pain this really is.
Like I said, there are much worse versions of this affliction, and I am fortunate to be experiencing a rather mild version of it. I’m grateful, very grateful for that. Some suffer from both arms, or maybe combined with one or the other limbs (legs) and that affects their Gait, or how they walk. Some get their whole body into it like Michael J. Fox. So, I am lucky and feel so.
But the pills just don’t cut it. It’s carbidopa-levodopa. I worked my way up from 1 pill, 3 times a day; to three pills, three times a day; and more recently changed it to a more potent version and only take one, three times a day again. But it doesn’t do shit.
I’d like to try the scripted thc to try and get some relief, but the powers to be have their head in the sand and won’t budge. I’ve asked “why” and can’ get an answer, other than the impression that it’s partisan politics at work. I’ll bet if any of them, or their family members had the same problem, they’d try to change it over night!! Hell, I could cross the border into any of our neighboring states and get the real stuff, but I’m trying to do it legitimately. Because it’s a legitimate problem and it would be a legitimate, legal solution if state law would allow it.
Someone out there is saying, “he only wants to sit around stoned all day”. Well, where it sounds like fun folks, the day of me drinking a case of Budweiser, or a bottle of Windsor, or smoking an ounce of pot in one sitting are LONG gone.
I just want some relief, and at this point, the state legislature is the only one that can do it for me.
BUT THEY JUST WON’T DO IT!!
WHY???
